The 997 GT2 featured a flat 6 3.6 twin turbo engine paired to a manual 6 speed gearbox and producing 530 hp to the rear wheels. The 3.6 dry sumped mezger engine utilised sophisticated variable - geometry turbos and a clever intake manifold system to produce 50hp more than the turbo of its generation.
The 997 GT2 was also the first 911 to incorporate a launch control system, which Porsche called launch assist at the time, allowed it to achieve a 0-62 time of 3.6 seconds and 0-100 of 7.4 seconds. A top speed of 204 mph put this car in a rare category of Porsches capable of joining the 200 mph club, with the Carrera GT achieving 203 mph. Rather embarrassingly for the Carrera GT the GT2 also managed to beat it around the Nurburgring by 5 seconds thanks to its more advanced Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM).
This vehicles boast a plethora of extra features including the all important Clubsport Package.
This upgrade switched the bucket seats to a flame retardant fabric, adding a fire extinguisher, red 6 point harnesses and a bolt on rear roll cage.
At launch in 2007 the GT2 achieved the highest ever retail price of a 911 of £131,000. And with only 62 RHD units making it to the UK they have become a great investment and one of the best all round “drivers” 911’s to date.
